Pastor Paul A. Evans
Pastor Paul A. Evans is married to his best friend, Jacqueline Acosta Evans. Together they have three wonderful adult children—Katherine, Michael, and Kayla, all from San Antonio—and five beloved grandchildren: Jordan (15), Levi (13), Jackson (10), Charlotte (2), and Ananda (1), whom they consider true gifts from God. Pastor Evans also has two sisters who are both optometrists—one living in Kerrville and the other in Midlothian. He is also a Mason and a member of Anchor Lodge in San Antonio.
Pastor Evans shares that he loves being appointed to serve Oak Island Methodist Church and believes God is doing great things within this faith community.
He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, in 1989, and later received his Master of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2007. He is a Board-Certified Chaplain through the National Association of Veterans Affairs Chaplains and has served as a Staff Chaplain with the Department of Veterans Affairs for the past ten years, working at VA Medical Centers in Battle Creek, Michigan; Alexandria, Louisiana; and Amarillo, Texas. Prior to entering full-time ministry, he worked for West Texas Utilities Company from 1990 to 2000 and has now been serving in ministry for over 28 years.
He served as a local church pastor from 1998 to 2009 within the Disciples of Christ and United Methodist traditions. In addition to his pastoral work, Pastor Evans has faithfully served his country. He served in the Texas Army National Guard as both an enlisted soldier and an officer in the role of Combat Engineer. He later continued his military service when he was directly commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve in March 2008. From 2008 to 2016, he served as a Fleet Marine Force Chaplain and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2011 to 2012.
Pastor Evans is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree in the San Antonio cohort at Truett Seminary at Baylor University. He serves on the Board of Ministry for the Mid-Texas Conference of the Global Methodist Church and is an ordained elder in the GMC.
